More specifically, get ready for Rock David Rupprecht!
This is a name we have loved for years but never realized it would be the name our first born child. It represents our faith and our fun side. And it is a name that our son will be proud to have.
ROCK
Rock came about for a number of reasons. In high school, Phil ran track against a guy named Roc Alexander (who went on to play football in the NFL). Since that time, Phil has liked the name Roc.
A few years ago, when we were trying to think of name ideas for our first nephew, the name Roc resurfaced in Phil’s mind and stuck in mine! Rock Rupprecht…I liked the sound of that! When we found out we were having a son, the name never left our minds, and no other name could compete. Even though we like the significance of ROC standing for “Rely on Christ,” we are going to spell Rock with a ‘k’ at the end. We’ll just say it means, “Rely on Christ our King” (thanks Brad, the best I could come up with was “Rely on Christ…Kid”).
Rock is also a Biblical reference. Here are a few of our favorite “Rock” scriptures:
“He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2
“My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.” Psalm 62:7
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the rock of our salvation.” Psalm 95:1
“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:2
DAVID
The middle name, David, is both a family name and a Biblical name. My dad is David, and the namesake of our son’s middle name. In the Bible, David is known as a man of character…a man after God’s own heart. He was a shepherd, a warrior, a musician, a hero, a king, and much more. The most important thing is that David was a man of God, and a “Rock” for his people. David was not perfect (his highs and lows are well documented in the Bible) and he failed many times in his life, but he always showed a dependence on God that gave him a closeness with the Lord. I pray that even if our son loses his direction, he will always find his way back to the Lord, like I did in my life.
RUPPRECHT
Our son’s last name is one of family honor too. Rock will be the first Rupprecht boy to carry on the family name out of the five original Rupprecht cousins. Only the two girl cousins have had babies so far, so their kids have mom’s married last name, where Rupprecht will obviously stay with Phil, and with Rock.
What a cool design...you going to put that in his room? Nice to hear the full description of how you chose his name...I knew most of it already!
