30th Week Appt

Yet another non-routine doctor appointment today. It started with a follow-up ultrasound which measured my fluid level at 8 AFI (two weeks ago it was 6 AFI and then 11 AFI a few days later at a different office). The doctor said I’ll be coming in to their office twice a week for the remainder of my pregnancy because of my low fluid level. They told me again that they’re not enforcing bed rest, but I need to be resting aggressively whenever possible.

Twice a week the doctor will do a ‘non stress test’ (or NST) on Rock which tracks his heart rate for a minimum of 20 minutes to see if the beats fluctuate in a normal range. They are watching for any stress the baby may be under based on the frequency of his heartbeat. (You can see in this photo there are two bands around my waist for the NST...one to monitor the baby's heartbeat and the other to monitor any contractions.) In addition, once every week I will have an ultrasound to check Rock’s growth and my fluid level (from what I understand).

The doctor also said at this point they wouldn’t deliver Rock early even though my fluid level is low because his growth has been normal and his non-stress test results were excellent today. But it sounds like an early delivery is still a concern they have, which doesn’t make me very comfortable at all!

Rock’s heart rate was 137 bpm and my tummy actually measured in the normal range today (28cm which is within the +/- 2cm range since I’m 30 weeks pregnant today). We did get more ultrasound photos too (which the ‘grandmas’ LOVE), so that’s fun. We will still be praying for a healthy baby and pregnancy for the next 10 weeks!

Phil said he's going to be the ‘enforcer’ in our marriage to make sure I rest. We spent all 3 days of Labor Day weekend working on the basement for 12+ hours each day! And we’ve been busy each night this week with friends, family, or shopping for supplies for our contractor who’s been working on our basement bath all week! It’s been chaotic to say the least!!!
