Full-term TODAY!

My 37th week email says, “today brings two beautiful words: full-term.” That is truly music to my ears! After the past 10 weeks of double doctor visits, NSTs and ultrasounds, it is such a relief for this day to come! I feel so blessed that he made it to full-term! He is now estimated to be the size of a watermelon during the 9th month (18.9 to 20.9 inches, 6.2 to 9.2 lbs). Today is his first day in the 9th month…

Today is also D-Day. As in DELIVERY day (…or at least the beginning of the delivery process). It’s strange trying to internalize the events that are about to happen and the ways our life will change over the next several hours. I will miss carrying my son around like a kangaroo mama with him in my pouch. Right now I know when he’s awake and LOVE getting to feel his movements and hiccups. But soon I’ll get to actually meet this little man that we’ve prayed for every day of my pregnancy and who we love SO much already. We’ll get to see his face and hold him in our arms, count to see if he has ten fingers and ten toes, and start a new chapter in our lives as a family of three. What a BIG D-Day this is!!! We head to the hospital tonight around 6pm.

Monday was my final doctor appointment and Rock did great on his last NST. My darn tummy was still only measuring 33cm (which it’s been at for weeks!). So I’m thankful that Rock will arrive soon so I can try to fatten him up out here in the world. Evidently there is a higher risk of a c-section delivery because Rock is small and may not respond well to labor. That is in God’s hands. Phil and I are ok with any means necessary to make sure he arrives safely…so we’ll see what happens!

The past week has been filled with celebrations with family and friends! We had a wonderful birthday dinner with Phil’s dad (Jim) on Friday. A 1st birthday party for a great little friend of ours on Saturday. A 30th birthday celebration for Phil with our small group Saturday night. And another family birthday celebration for Phil and Becki’s 30th on Tuesday night! With all of the partying, I managed to catch a head cold. But it seems to be lessening today which is great!

Phil has been a rock star this week by making me go to bed early (to get over my cold) while he stayed up each night working on our final baby preparations. I love him more than I can describe. I hope our son shares SO many of his father’s amazing qualities, including his birthday month!
