Cameras, cribs, and colds...Oh my!

We’ve had a lot of fun happenings this week. Not only am I officially 26 weeks pregnant today, but it’s also Phil and my four-year wedding anniversary! (And Sunday, August 15th will be our seven-year dating anniversary!) We are celebrating this weekend by staying at a bed and breakfast in Greeley while we’re visiting for my 10-year high school reunion. (Yes…we just went to my ‘other’ school’s reunion in Coronado, CA last month.) We will also get to enjoy our brand new DSLR camera that arrived this week (Phil’s anniversary present). We plan to take some nice pregnancy photos around town over the weekend.

Baby specific happenings this week include our son having fully developed fingernails and his lungs producing a substance called surfactant (which allows the air sacs in his lungs to inflate so he can practice breathing before delivery). We’ve also started a more serious search for a crib, which is not an easy endeavor! We can find a crib we like online, but no local store carries it, so we can’t see it in person before buying. Or we make our #1 crib choice, actually find it in a store, and realize it’s cheaply made and we no longer like it. At this point we’ve narrowed down our search to four cribs, all sold online at Target, Babies ‘R Us, and Walmart but only one of the four is actually carried in a store for us to view. Once we make the crib purchase we can officially start decorating the nursery!!! BTW, not only are Walmart’s prices significantly less than competitors, but they will allow a ship-to-store option so you don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars in shipping costs (like Target) to your home.

The only downside to the past week has been developing a cold. It’s not terrible (like my last cold in the spring), but it did keep me home one day this week when I didn’t want to push myself too hard and get really rundown. As of now it feels like I’m closer to the end of my cold than the beginning, but I will still have to take it easy throughout the weekend until I’m totally recovered.
