My weekly email got a little boring this week because the baby is still the size of a papaya for the entire month (I'm 23 weeks pregnant). He’s still trying to ‘sprout nipples’ and is fully formed (he’s just putting on weight from here forward). But the email does say that my belly button should pop out any day, which is new and exciting…I’ve never had that happen before! Although, I must say, there hasn’t been much change in my belly button lately, other than the new maternity belly ring I put in 3 weeks ago. It’s longer than normal and made of a medical-grade plastic, so it can bend with my growing belly. I really like it!
One new phenomenon is my motherly instinct to “ground” our little baby. While sitting in the ER last week (before I determined it was likely the spicy food that sent me there), I told Phil “your son is grounded the moment he pops out!” Now, the grounding threat has become more of an inside joke. Like when baby boy discovered my bladder makes a good punching bag and I spent the entire afternoon running to the restroom every 5 minutes…”He’s grounded!” Or when he keeps me up at night because of all his jumping around (which is FUN, no doubt…but exhausting), “He is SO grounded!”
