We’re having a BOY!!! We had my 20 week ultrasound and doctor appointment yesterday and right away the ultrasound tech saw our little man’s big show! He was NOT shy! We knew the gender within one minute of starting the ultrasound! Everything looked healthy with all of the baby’s measurements and it was SO special to share the event with six other family members besides me and Phil!!! My mom and dad, Phil’s mom and dad, and my maternal grandma and grandpa came with us. What a special day!!! Our celebrating continued with dinner and lots of family members, including our entire small group. I couldn’t have asked for anything more!
Today marks the half way point. I’m 20 weeks into a 40 week pregnancy…only 140 days left! But I’m not actually counting, that’s just the information TheBump.com tells me each week. According to their weekly email, we have a cantaloupe now who is drinking amniotic fluid to practice swallowing and digesting. And the baby’s taste buds are already working! I’m sure Phil will want me to increase my BBQ intake, so our son will have the same passion for meat that his daddy does! Phil’s parents even bought our baby a onesie that says “Dad’s BBQ Buddy”…it made us both laugh out loud!
Another exciting milestone…Phil and I felt the baby’s first (official) movement last Saturday (June 26th)! It was thrilling!!! I thought it was a muscle spasm in my tummy, but after a long, random progression, I made Phil try to feel it too and we both knew…it was the baby moving!
The internet and books always describe the baby’s first movement as feeling like a flutter, so I envisioned something similar to butterfly kisses you do with your eyelashes. But this feeling was much stronger than an eyelash. It really felt more like a muscle movement than a flutter to me, but that didn’t detract from the excitement of the moment!
We’re headed to California tomorrow for vacation. It should be a nice break from working on the house and anxiously awaiting our ultrasound.
