First doctor's appointment:-)

What an exciting week we had…the same Thursday we received the email letting us know we have a baby the size of a raspberry (it grew from the size of a sweat pea to blueberry, and is now a raspberry at week 8); we had our first doctor appointment. Thursday, April 8th was our 8-week doctor appointment. We met with the nurse practitioner to hear all about the Do’s and Don’ts of pregnancy. I found out I can eat chocolate and most fish…I was a happy girl! Then I had a pelvic exam and got lots of blood drawn. But next was the fun part…our first ultrasound!

We were able to see the baby for the first time and explored all of the little things on the screen. Luckily we had the camera so Phil took some photos…and even took a video recording of the heartbeat! It’s a strong 142 beats/minute. The technician was able to tell that the fertilized egg came from my left ovary…interesting (and random, sorry if that's TMI). And the baby is about ½” long. Phil was calling it a little gummy bear after the appointment. We decided against the 1st trimester screening where they test for spina bifida and down syndrome (thanks to advice from Phil’s sister, Becki) because it doesn’t matter if the baby has a health problem, we will be parents no matter what. So our next appointment is scheduled for Friday, May 7th. It will be my 12-week appointment.
