First surprise...

We told our family and small group about our pregnancy on Thursday night (March 25th). Everyone was coming over for dinner and to listen to our testimony (we needed to practice before we did it for 70 people at the Rock Solid spring retreat that Saturday). Phil and I made the decision to tell our immediate family (including our small group) about our pregnancy that night…it was a last minute decision right before people arrived. We wanted the people we loved to be praying for our first doctor appointment and it was getting harder and harder to keep the exciting news to ourselves.

Phil lead our dinner prayer once everyone arrived. We circled up and held hands in the family room and Phil prayed for an evening of fellowship and thanked God for our supportive family, and then he asked God to bless our meal “especially since Michele is eating for two.” Everyone in the room was excited! Even I reacted as if I had heard the news for the first time too! I was jumping around like a crazy person until I found my first open arms for a hug. We explained how we found out and when, and we got to tell everyone our baby was the size of a sweat pea! (It had already grown from the size of a poppyseed, to an appleseed, and was a sweat pea by week 6.)

Our news was out for the first time...but everyone was sworn to secrecy since we haven't had our first doctor's appointment yet AND because we want to be able to tell people our news (not have them hear it through the grapevine if we can avoid it). At least we have an entire prayer team now, not just two devoted parents praying (that's us!).

This video shows how we told my dad...he wasn't at our house the night we announced to the rest of the family...
