I can’t believe it’s been three weeks since my last blog post! I had such high expectations to get a birth story written and one final blog post the week after Rock arrived…but I now know that was extremely unrealistic with a newborn baby to care for. Instead I’m posting today (Nov 18th) on Rock’s original DUE DATE!
Our son is 19 days old today and we’ve had 19 wonderful days of first-time experiences with him already! Just yesterday, I had my first blowout poopy diaper (Rock literally farted when I was changing him and launched poop all over me!)…and daddy got to experience another blowout for himself when Rock did it again this morning at 3am! We’ve been adjusting to feeding Rock every 2.5-3 hours (or sooner if he’s hungry), changing a ton of diapers, loving on our little man with snuggle time and kisses, and spending quality time together as a family. Phil and I have shared a ton of laughs during this learning process, whether it’s from blowout diapers, being peed on, or simply being delirious from our sleepless nights…it’s all been a wonderful experience that we would do again in a heartbeat!
Labor and delivery was long. We checked into the hospital on Thursday night (10/28) and Rock didn’t arrive until Saturday night (10/30)…but the process was a great practice in patience for the best end result possible…a healthy son who was born vaginally (no c-section required). Rock David Rupprecht blessed our lives at 9:34pm on 10/30/2010 (an October birthday just for Phil!). He weighed 5lbs 11oz and was 18.75 inches long. Today, on Rock’s original due date, he weighs 6lbs 12oz.
Today marks the final entry in this blog. It was created in order to keep family informed about my pregnancy, but this blog has become a wonderful record of the happiness, love, faith, and fears we’ve shared for so many months now, along with the specifics of my pregnancy. I’m thrilled that God has blessed us with a healthy young man to raise in His likeness. A son we’ll love forever, unconditionally. And a son who has already blessed our lives more richly than we could ever imagine! We pray for his health, his future, and his faith.
The Bible says, “Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them…” (Psalm 127: 3-5)
God bless.
