The first onion Phil ever liked...

I’m 17 weeks pregnant as of yesterday (Thursday) and the baby is the size of an onion (5.1 in, 5.9 oz). I received my weekly email telling me the growth processes that are occurring right now…the baby’s skeleton is hardening (rubbery cartilage is changing to bone) and our baby now has one-of-a-kind finger prints! According to a book I’m reading called ‘YOU: Having a Baby,’ finger prints are formed at a specific point during the baby’s growth, and environmental factors like the exact position of the fetus and the exact composition and swirling of the amniotic fluid around the baby’s skin dictates how each ridge and finger print will form. That’s why it’s considered so unique to each person!

The past week has been more difficult that most because of my sleep deprived state right now. I am exhausted! The main cause is that I haven’t slept through the night (or for more than 3 hours in a row) for the past few weeks. Frequent potty breaks are plaguing my sleep and I need to quit drinking fluids earlier in the evening to try to help the situation…but that’s easier said than done when I’m thirsty! People tease that the increase in potty breaks during the night is to prepare you for being up with the baby in a few months. But I think that’s a mean trick and it could wait until closer to delivery!

We finally got the future nursery all cleared out last Sunday and ready for paint. So, painting is the goal for this weekend (if I can stay awake long enough to help)!
